Week in Review – 5 May

flgowrley

Here’s my weekly round-up of what caught my attention last week (so. many. conferences…)

Firstly, the rediscovery of this ‘lost’ botanical text by Anne Kingsbury Wollstonecraft, “Specimens of the Plants and Fruits of the Island of Cuba.” The feminist history of botanical illustration is discussed in this great piece.

Secondly, this summer school on Rethinking the Baroque.

Thirdly, the Renaissance Skin Reading Group, detailed here, which sounds like all sorts of fun.

Some publications that caught my eye:

This edited peer-reviewed collection on Museums and the Working Class

This edited collection on Romanticism and Illustration

This hugely exciting collection on Martial masculinities: Experiencing and imagining the military in the long nineteenth century

Some conferences and events that piqued my attention (so SO many):

CFP: Material Narratives (Johannesburg, 18-20 Nov 19)

CONF: Memory Lives On: Documenting the HIV/AIDS Epidemic

CONF: Victoria’s Self-Fashioning: Curating Royal Image for Dynasty, Nation and Empire

CFP: Silence in/of Archives: Absence, Erasure, Censorship, and Archival Politics

CFP: Afterlives: Reinvention, Reception, and Reproduction

Event: Captain Cook, Colonial Theft and British Museums: The Gweagal Artefacts
